Reference tool development

The development of each reference tool is managed by an Expert Working Group composed of experts from Task Force member companies. These Expert Working Groups systematically apply the following steps to this development process:

1. DESIGN

compare and analyse existing practices in order to identify best practices – a draft tool is drawn up;

2. CONSULT

prepare and manage a web-consultation on the draft tool to gather feedback from a global audience of stakeholders (member companies, other companies, initiatives, schemes, civil society representatives, service providers etc) - this ensures that the draft tool references best practices and represents a consensus among stakeholders;

3. REVIEW

prepare a recommendation on if and how the draft reference tool should be amended based on consultation results;

4. APPROVE

submit the recommendation to the GSCP Advisory Board, who analyse it and communicate their own recommendations to the GSCP Executive Board for final approval.

method
    The tools are then published to the GSCP website, and are openly available.

    Review Protocol

    In order to ensure that the GSCP reference tools constantly reflect existing best practices and represent a wide consensus among stakeholders, all tools are to be reviewed on a regular basis. The timeline for review is the following:
    - 1st review 1 year after publication
    - 2nd review 2 years after that
    - review every 3 years from that point

    These reviews take the shape of public consultations, typically running for a full year on the GSCP website. Please go to the consultation page to see any review protocols currently in place and participate.
