Data Sharing PDF E-mail

Objective

This fifth step aims at developing protocols for data and information sharing starting with a careful analysis of existing best practices.
The aims are:

  • to reduce duplication
  • to make the best use of the information sourced through audits
  • to improve transparency
  • to support improvements in remediation (Step six).
This step does not aim at developing another database but rather at enabling existing data sharing platforms to communicate, hence reducing duplication and improving transparency. This will allow for best use of the information sourced through steps 1 to 4 of the GSCP working plan, and to support improvements in remediation through data mining.

Expert Working Group

The Expert Working Group (EWG) on Data Sharing is built to ensure the involvement and support of existing initiatives / data exchange systems. It indeed not only includes representatives of GSCP member companies, but also representatives of these stakeholder organisations as listed below.
This expanded EWG has been split into 4 subgroups, each addressing a facet of the work and lead by one subgroup member (subgroup leaders in bold) – see below for details. This project should lead to the development of protocols for data exchange and an interface-driven IT solution/portal.

Subgroup A

Scope of work: Data ownership & permission to share, including Suppliers engagement to share data  (process to collaborate upfront) & Rules (deontology) on how the data is used/ shared (do’s and don’ts) and enforcement of the rules including Confidentiality vs. unacceptable conditions (establish rules to assess when you can actually break confidentiality)
    • Hazel Culley, MARKS & SPENCER
    • Francesca Lane, MARKS & SPENCER
    • Ingrid Caceres, THE WALT DISNEY CO.

    • Carmel Giblin, SEDEX
    • Benoit Terpereau, ENABLON
    • Pierre François Thaler, ECOVADIS

Subgroup D

Scope of work: Defining use cases/scenario (in and out of scope, priorities) – support scope and priority definition of what ARTS may work on (or other). This Sub-group makes the link with the work of ARTS.

Development Process

Drafting

The aim of the Expert Working Group’s work is to understand the current landscape and existing data sharing models. This includes what data are shared, how they are shared, to what extent and for what purpose, and who owns them. The objective of their work is also to understand the barriers to data exchange and look at how to overcome these. The Group started work on this in October 2010.
